Elmore, Cupp and Jorgensen Take Top Three Spots, Advance to State Event
USA Truck, Inc. (NASDAQ: USAK) a leading capacity solutions provider
headquartered in Van Buren, AR, hosted its fourth annual Technician
Championship on April 30. Three local competitors topped a field of
elite technicians representing USA Truck facilities across the country.
Jesse Elmore won three of the 10 events on the way to repeating as USA
Truck Grand Champion, followed by fellow Van Buren technicians Daniel
Cupp (second place) and Josh Jorgensen (third place).
Each of the 10 technicians qualified to compete based on a rigorous
written exam that tests knowledge of various systems, components and
processes associated with USA Truck’s equipment and maintenance
strategy. The competition consisted of 10 stations, where each
technician was required to complete a written and hands-‐on exam by
diagnosing and repairing unknown issues with the equipment on which they
were tested.
Elmore earned the top scores in HVAC, Trailer Inspection and Steering &
Suspension. Cupp won the Eaton Transmission and DOT Compliance stations,
along with earning special recognition for the highest qualifying
written exam score. Elmore, Cupp and Jorgensen will represent USA Truck
at the Arkansas Technician Championship June 12 in Rogers, AR.
Though they did not place among the top three, Roland Stump of Carlisle,
PA (Tire Inspection and Electrical) and Barry Smith of Atlanta, GA
(Detroit Engine Diagnostics and Stemco Wheel End) each took top scores
in multiple categories.
Also competing were Josh Harris (Chicago, IL), Blake Hurst (Van Buren,
AR), Allan Ivy (West Memphis, AR), Carlos Ramirez (Denton, TX) and Kyle
Ranville (Dayton, OH).
“Our technicians possess exceptional talent and skill and we are proud
to be able to provide a showcase for their abilities,” said Jim Cade,
Vice President, Maintenance for USA Truck. “Jesse and Daniel are
veterans who have competed well for us over the years, and it’s
especially exciting to see some new faces this time around. That means
our team members are putting more emphasis on learning, growing and
improving themselves. Competition makes everyone better and ultimately
makes our company stronger.”
